School was a pain sometimes. Not that Matilda would actively say it, but it was. All the school work on top off training like crazy, it all was getting to her fragile mind. She wasn't tough enough for this, her skills were useless. She was useless, through and through. That's what she kept telling herself after each failure she encountered. The same old things ran through her mind as she walked out of the door of her last class till the afternoon. Why couldn't she do anything right? Anything at all?
Those were the questions she often though about, seeing her family so successful with her younger brother's power exceeding her own. It was getting far too much for this sixteen year old to handle, as her brain began to ache. A light palm crushed to her temples as her feet made gentle thudding, as she turned in the direction of the cafeteria.
The food here was not the best ever but it was not so bad it was inedible. It wasn't like she was in the mood to eat anyway as her head only ached on more. The lunchtime rush was terrible, as students made their way out of their classes and onwards to lunch. Being unnoticeable as she was despite her bright pink hair, she was often pushed past, causing her to sway slightly.
Her eyes kept on ahead until some older teen shoved right past her, sending her to her feet, her books falling to the ground. "Watch where you’re going!" the tall male yelled as she stumbled on all fours too grab her books, barely managing to say another word.
"I'm s-sorry" she stuttered before he turned a blind eye and disappeared out of sight. Her heart thudded loudly as her cheeks flushed red. This was not what she asked for as she was certain everyone was looking at her. Without hesitation, she tried not to cry, finding it hard to grasp the books that wouldn't seem to stay in her hands. Great just what I need she whispered to herself, scrambling to her feet.
Her world seemed smaller now, the ground set to swallow her up. Cheeks burning red, Matilda made her way to the destination she had set eyes on. With the books under one arm, she headed on quietly to join the queue, balancing the tray carefully. It was fairly easy to determine that this girl was not at all graceful, her feet did not want to co operate with her body most days. Falling over was embarrassing and unneeded. It made her feel even more insecure when her embarrassment was caught by a million others curious eyes.
Her hand reached for her lunch, a cheese sandwich and an apple, nothing fancy, she didn’t feel like eating now anyway. Infact she wasn’t keen on doing anything, she didn’t deserve it. Paying for her items, her emerald eyes searched around the large hall for an empty table. Once she had found one, she made her way over, the books underneath the tray started to slip. Focusing all her energy on keeping it straight, she didn’t notice someone’s leg in the way.
For the second time that day, Matilda fell to the ground, her lunch and books flying everywhere as her eyes held back the tears, praying for the ground to swallow her up right now and save her from this horrible day.
